- It has the cataloging codes as a research topic and approaches the Resource Description and Access (RDA) as its object of study. In the course of the research, it is asked on the presence of principles and theoretical foundations of descriptive cataloging in the RDA proposal. It is defined, as a general objective of the research, to analyze the proposal of the RDA in the light of the fundamentals and principles of descriptive cataloging, and, to achieve this, the following objectives are used specific: [1] analyze the founding theorists of cataloguing, their principles and foundations; [2] discuss updating cataloging codes and treaties; [3] analyze the RDA proposal, its principles and objectives in light of the principles and fundamentals of descriptive cataloging. The research, of an applied nature, adopts a qualitative approach, making use of bibliographic and documentary procedures to achieve exploratory objectives. Academically, it is intended to contribute to the discussions about the essence of the RDA, by expanding the possibilities of studies and familiarity with the objectives, principles, functions and application of the RDA standard. The results show that, even at different times, different technological contexts or that some of the rules and instructions differ in the RDA standard, what is observed in the theoretical framework of such scholars is the concern with the user and the effort so that the catalog does not serve only as a channel of communication between the collections and the public, but turns to the fulfilling the role of democratizing access and use of information.
