- This research’s goal is studying the Format use of exchange MARC 21 in Brazil with focus on the Format for Information of Community. The specific objective is mainly: identify the coverage of the systems of information for the use of MARC 21; it will show a study making use of MARC 21 sharing information in Brazilian libraries and universities. The methodological procedures approached the qualitative research, with exploratory and descriptive goals, with data survey characteristics. The datas collection was performed, at first, through quizzes that were sent to the libraries catalogers and then by the lack of enough information from the quizzes, it was decided to collect the datas through the libraries websites. As result it was verified that the libraries do not use the MARC 21 Format to Information of Community and that the most of them use their own softwares that do not utilize the MARC 21 Format, which affects the datas exchange between the institutions. In future researches it is intended to proceed the studies about interdisciplinarity between areas of Science of Information and Systems of Information with focus on the cataloguing, relating with the new cataloguing guidelines: the Resource Description and Access (RDA).
