- When we talk about accessible formats, the Marrakesh Treaty indicates “...reproduction of a work, in an alternative way or form that gives the beneficiaries access to it, said access being as viable and comfortable as that of people without visual impairment or without other difficulties in accessing the printed text. The accessible format copy will be used exclusively by the recipients and must respect the integrity of the original work, taking into due consideration the changes necessary to make the work accessible in the alternative format and the accessibility needs of the recipients.” The treaty refers to accessibility as a general concept that has to find the appropriate response to the information needs of the beneficiaries, depending on the type of disability and access preference. In this sense, it is necessary to distinguish in some way that accessibility can be determined in accessible formats in terms of the support that contains the information or the adaptation that the work requires to comply with the accessibility that the beneficiaries need.
