  • The present research paper points out the importance of public information management and the methods implemented by different government to foster interoperability in e-goverment service delivery are analysed. XML is presented as an proper standard for public information markup, having into consideration its potential to solve most of the present interoperability problems. It is concluded that XML provides an ideal way to develop interoperable services in the public arena. At the same time, it is stated that XML cannot be considered as a solution by itself , so it is needed the co-operation among different government levels in order to develop schemas and common standards that can be used and shared by all public organisations in the development of information products and services.
