  • This work will develop the different community contributions that the Municipal Public Library has made in the Necoclí Municipality, in the Urabá Antioquian region, in Colombia, specifically, those focused on the ethnic group Kuna, settled in the rural areas of the region. In addition to safeguarding its cultural heritage (which ranges from music, its fabrics and its own ethnomathematical system), the library has played other roles, such as being the educational epicenter of the municipality; the balance of this community has been representatively based on its community leaders (saylas) and its own institutions (such as the library). The customary socio-political forms of organization of this indigenous community have unofficial recognition, but it is put into practice and is respected by the authorities. In addition, it should be noted that this area (which includes the municipality of Turbo), presents various social problems, such as the use of the territory by drug cartels, the transfer of various goods by sea or the forced displacement of the population (especially of this indigenous community). This community has been characterized in recent decades by some rebellions in which the Kuna have opposed the policies of integration and homogenization imposed from a colonialist vision, and little respect for plurality. Therefore, the educational contributions that have arisen from the library have been proposed whose main objective is to develop an education of its own that responds to the needs of the community, its worldview, its traditions and its particular logic.
