  • The paper presents a bibliometric study on the status of stem cell research based on the data retrieved from the Scopus database and using various scientometric parameters. Finds that of the total 137937 publications on stem cell, the highest number i.e. 11653 were published in 2016 and the lowest i.e.1910 in 2001. In the case of India, 2017 was the highest productive year and 2001 the lowest. Among the published documents most were in the English (124,745) followed by Chinese. Journal articles (99468) were the highest in number among different types of publications as nascent information on a subject mainly gets reflected in journal articles. Researchers from the USA top the list with 42,211 publications on stem cells in the whole world. The year 2008 received maximum number of citations i.e. 333,921. There is a significant negative correlation between time and the growth of citation. From 2014 to 2018 the number of citations has been reduced in comparison to previous years.
