- The structuring of institutional repositories by universities contributes to the promotion of its prestige, improvement in the evaluation rankings and, consequently, increase of its relevance and influence. For the Federal University of Latin American Integration (UNILA), whose institutional mission is represented by the training of human resources that will contribute to Latin American integration, regional development and cultural, scientific and educational interchange in Latin America, tools to increase preservation times and expand access to information are vitally important. The repository is expected to contribute to free access to information; facilitate management of information available in digital media; preserve institutional memory and increase the visibility and use of intellectual production developed at the university. This study aims to present the stages of creation of RI-UNILA: contextualizing the Federal University of Latin American Integration (UNILA); rescuing in the specialized literature information for the theoretical support of the work; finally presenting the implementation stages of the repository.
