- As one of the main public buildings libraries are required to be involved in seeking solutions for environmental problems such as climatic changes, environmental pollution, energy consumption. Green library or sustainable library means environment friendly and energy saving library building. As a center of continuous education for life time it is necesseray to make library buildings to be good examples for the people in terms of awareness and approaches on environmental issues. They contribute to maintain the natural balance, produce less waste, and are built with low budget but in good quality. However, applications of green library buildings are based on different requirements comraing to the other gren buildings. The aim of this paper is to examine the green library buildings; to determine the difference between other green buildings and green library buildings in terms of requirements; and to give information on how to meet those of requirements.
