- The basic effort of mankind was to survive first, and then was to be in the ascendant the environment and the nature. One of the needs of this effort to gain meaning and achieve its purpose is the ability to accumulate every kind of creature that begins with the existence of man and to convert his experience into new inspirations in this process. At the same time, the main factor that is shared, conveyed and turned into the power is knowledge in the process that guides the life of human being. Accumulation has gained a new form with the existence of writing and the easier and faster transfer of information. Although the archives, libraries and the museums have has a transformation in their form and services, they have become the institution that meets their own needs. City archives which are the result of the local historiography developed in 18th century are the newest rings that are added to the chain of information center types. City archives are the institutions that provide to create urban and urbanity concepts and to protect the cultural heritage and to transmit it to the next generation by considering the developed technology. However at this point, urban archives should not be the only responsible to conduct the process healthily; this responsibility should be shared with the city, managers and the citizens in the city. It is aimed to draw attention to the cultural climate of our country, the transformation of this climate into a national identity, and the tasks, responsibilities and actions of the urban city, which rapidly become one of the important actors in the information centers, in this study. In the study, the development of city and urbanism has briefly mentioned and the culture world reaching the urban archives of city life has been dealt with. Then the integration of the institutional and social functions of the city archives into the national cultural archive world and the achievement of this process has been detailed. It is aimed that the study mainly carried out by way of description will be an important reference for our national cultural archive world and stakeholders through both city archives and city archives identity
