  • The problem of the retrieval of information in the Web can appear from different points of view, with mechanism as the relevance feedback, the use of thesauri, the study of the hyperlinks, or the application of artificial neural networks, among others. All these mechanisms are applied on big databases constructed from the previous exploration of more or less wide sectors of the Web. The experience has demonstrated that the precision of these systems is low, and the recall is related to the explored sector. To resolve the problem another approach exists, it tries to obtain much more precise results (without prosecuting great values of recall) based on the use of intelligent agents who trace the net according to the informative needs. Characteristics of the agents are indicated and the properties and desirable skills for those agents are analyzed for information retrieval in the Web.
