Daftar Isi:
- The concept of "false news" became a topical issue during the U.S. elections in 2016, when news with little or no basis spread rapidly in the social media, causing some concern about its possible influence on the democratic process. But the existence of "false news" is not new. Disinformation wars" already existed in ancient Rome. The great problem of the 21st century is that the information ecosystem has changed profoundly as a consequence of the possibilities offered by information technology, so that if in past times information was undermined by hiding or suppressing it, today the opposite is true, making such a large amount of information and so many different signs available to everyone that it is difficult even for an expert to discern what information is real and what is not. As Julie Posetti and Alice Matthews state, "powerful new technologies simplify the manipulation and fabrication of content, and social networks drastically amplify the falsehoods sold by anti-democratic governments, populist politicians and dishonest corporate entities.
