- The pleasure of reading, declared by diverse readers and in various circumstances, does not appear to clearly have a seat in the context of public reading, that is, reading that is serviced by public libraries. I propose to inquire about a mismatch between the desired reading modes, the pleasurable reading, and the places for their practice in public libraries. Given the patriarchal and productivist imprints in the historical constraints to the pleasure of reading, I propose to start from a feminist theoretical framework oriented to the questioning of contentment provided by reading as a form of reproductive work, care work. I intend to create a ground from which to clarify the present form of those constraints, as well as to understand how one can produce a practiced place of public reading that recognizes and welcomes a mode of reading for pleasure.
