- Objective. It investigates the use of new digital methods and tools regarding access, creation and dissemination of scholarly information. It analyzes the incorporation of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in the research process by PhD students in Information Science (IS) in the Iberian Area and in Brazil. Design/Methodology/Approach.The methodology adopted was literature review, an exploratory-descriptive study and a case study with doctoral students of six doctoral programs in the mentioned countries. Data collection was done through semi-structured interviews and an electronic survey. Data treatment followed descriptive statistics patterns. Results/Discussion.174 responses were obtained. The group consists mostly of female students (67%), ages 25-59, with IS Education (50%). The study revealed that ICT pervasively permeates all phases of education and doctoral production. Concerning the publication of results, respondents have preference for traditional scientific outputs and validation. Conclusions. In general, Information Science doctoral students in of the three countries mentioned have increasingly incorporated ICT in their scholarly communication practices, consider that their rapid evolution is a negative aspect for their adoption and that the Doctoral Programs could foster more the use of these tools. Originality/Value.The Data collected can be used to better discuss doctoral training in IS, analyze patterns of scientific communication and serve as a contribution to the construction of a cartography of this area, so necessary to the current scientific agenda.
