  • The doctorate in science presupposes the highest level of academic training and guarantees first level human resources, hence the need to systematically monitor them. The objective of the study was to develop an index to measure doctoral self-development in academic areas, as a basis for evaluating the results of its corresponding training management. For its elaboration a mixed methodology was conceived that integrated qualitative and quantitative methods. As a result, it obtained the doctoral self-development index (DSI), which makes it possible to measure the main results of the management of the training of doctors in science in academic areas. It was concluded that the use of the proposed index provides universities with a novel tool to systematically monitor doctoral training in their areas.
