  • The mainstream and contemporary Internet, where we have been "living" for many years, provides a seamless flow of digital contents. We suggest that today the goals of information literacy extend beyond using/extracting information and data from the "infosphere", to broader goals: "living" in the web in a responsible and informed way. The different literacies: Digital literacy, Media literacy and Transliteracy trace out a theorical-practical framework that refers not only to the skills, but to the overall attitudes and cognitive styles that are indispensable for living in the web in a responsible way. The main purpose of this article is to offer an overview of the different literacies outlined in the 2000-2009 years, secondly, to propose immediate actions that librarians could take in order to support patrons in developing an awareness of the opportunities, rights and responsibilities of "digital citizenship". The last part of the article proposes a reflection about Information literacy as a way for empowering the community.
