- The article discusses the concept of Human Development and its consideration at a national level, specifically on qualitative aspects that influence the welfare of a society in its current context. We review the pending challenges that Chile has in relation to Human Development, treating aspects as national identity, fears and globalization. Under this framework, we examine the role of information professionals and libraries as responsible for contributing to the welfare of their communities from a social, cultural and political point of view, in order to be considered agents of social change in the challenge of making a qualitative leap development of the nation.
