  • The main objective of this project is to analyze how institutions and media communicate emergencies through social media. Social media by its own characteristics (immediacy, horizontality and simplicity) allow instantaneous communication of risk situations. This brings with it some challenges such as: the rapid spread of "hoaxes" or little contrasted information, the loss of control of information by institutions and media and a considerable increase in the citizen's ability to convey their criticisms to the managers of the emergency. However, properly used, digital social networks can be an opportunity to: quickly and effectively warn the population of a risky situation, viralize that information so that it reaches as many citizens as possible, ability to respond immediately to the doubts of the citizens generating a positive engagment, among other opportunities.
