- The research group is actually the main institution and executer of science in Spanish public universities, although its study in cybermetrics and bibliometric levels is yet very limited because of some methodological problems. This essay presents a cybermetric analysis about the web sites of the research groups in information and documentation belonging to public Spanish universities, with the goal to identify its presence in the web, know their adequacy to a webometric analysis, as well as compute its size (number of records) and visibility (URL mentions, external links, linked sites and popularity). The results show a gentle presence of groups with wide diversity in URLs syntaxes (most of it inadequate), and a discrete presence and visibility. The sites with better results belong to groups with a creation politics and open disposition of the general activities of the group as well as the obtained results, where the existence of products makes an important impact in size and in visibility. The webs politics relative to universities web sites should favor creation and maintenance in an independent and flexible way of group web sites, which would allow a improve in diffusion and transparence of their activities.
