- The link between (public) libraries and poverty is often assumed. It's surmised that libraries might facilitate the lives of people living in poverty, e.g. by means of a substitution function with regard to media or the provision of information. The book examines these assumptions, which leads to irritation, and suggests how this discussion could proceed. In the course of the discussion, it becomes clear that in this context, there is much guesswork and little concrete knowledge about how people in poverty really use libraries and how libraries support the poor at the attempt of escaping from poverty. The book wants to contribute to the librarian discussion.
