  • What happens when a Library closes? Who misses it? Who protests? What is the reaction of its users and of society in general? Is it news when a library closes? Is it news where its collections will go? What will be said by the media and public key opinion leaders? Who is responsible? Does somebody care? The present work approaches these questions and tries to provide possible answers to them. The Colon Theatre's library closed its doors at the end of 2006 within a restoration and technological improvement process so called Master Plan. In 2010, the Theatre reopens its doors without the library. Thus, eight and a half years passed until the library reopened in 2015. Different media, public key opinion leaders have analyzed and documented the Theatre's restoration process. The present study analyzes the media coverage provided by the newspapers Pagina 12, La Nacion, La Prensa and Clarin. It proposes to enquire about the media coverage of the situation of the library and its collection. An analysis of the agenda of these four graphic media and public opinion leaders is made. On the other hand, the sustainability in time of the coverage provided by the selected media is studied. The documentation analysis includes the period of 2002 to 2015. Likewise, in pursuit of official answers around the situation of the library and its collection, the answers and statements provided by Buenos Aires City authorities and directors of the Theatre is analyzed. Finally, the present study approaches the repercussion that the closing of the library had on its users, Colon Theatre's regulars and workers. Surveys were conducted to enquire about the knowledge of the situation of the library within the restoration process of the Theatre.
