- Explores the application of alternative metrics for evaluation of Brazilian scientific journals in the area of Information Science. Citations received by articles published in selected journals in the period from 2011 to 2015 were identified employing the Altmetric Explorer tool. The results show that there are few Brazilian scientific journals in the area of Information Science for which you can produce alternative metrics. However, within this small universe, there was progressive increase in the occurrence of citations each year to articles in alternative sources measured by the Altmetric service, indicating the growing use of social networks for dissemination and sharing of information by the academic community.
