- The aim of this chapter is to show how the public library has been involved since its inception in the processes of social inclusion, and how it has evolved into an interest in supporting literacy and bring culture, information and education to the poor. With that will link its origins social engagement currently held, and directs the library to a compensatory action of inequalities in the use of information, addressing the digital divide and new literacies.
