- Within the scope of the Austria-wide project "e-Infrastructures Austria", in cluster I "Metadata from a technical and a non-technical point of view", is currently built up a knowledge network and platform about metadata. Aim is the preparation of guidelines, how IT departments as well as libraries could or should deal with metadata in the course of the installation and ongoing operation of a repository. Besides over-views of the possibilities for the implementation of Linked (Open) Data, metadata standards, best practice approaches, new technical developments, e.g. in the area of controlled vocabularies, a needs assessment among researchers on metadata for re-search data and a series of use cases, a study on the state of affairs in connection with institutional practices concerning metadata will also be prepared. Furthermore should be looked into the question, how barrier-free metadata could be created and how they could contribute to the fact that objects are freely accessible to as many people as possible. All these expert's assessments which should also lead to a more open science should flow into daily routines, e.g. in the course of the creation of data management plans. In 2016 will be organized an event at the University of Vienna which should contribute to the raising of awareness for high-quality metadata and to which experts will be invited to discuss with each other and to exchange experiences. The results that are orginated within the scope of this cluster will all be publish Open Access.
