- Preventive conservation minimize damage on the documents, and decreases its restoration. The documentary collections treasured in libraries generally have great value for the communities of users that the institution satisfies information needs. In the study the methodology of the National Library of Cuba "José Martí" (BNJM) for the diagnosis of sites and collections are used; applying variables and describing the negative aspects detected. Funds and collections of the Art Gallery of the Provincial Library "Martí" of Villa Clara, Cuba diagnosed. It identifies the collection of documents is analyzed at high risk of deterioration, just as short-term factors that may cause the loss of documents are identified. The status of the documents favors the proposal of a plan of preventive measures in line with the situation of the collection.
