  • A cybermetric analysis of the museum system of Valencia is presented in 2012. From the "Directory of Museums and Collections in Spain", prepared by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports, 213 museums located in Valencia are identified. From these, an analysis of the URL syntax of the corresponding web sites is performed. Subsequently, taking only those URLs formed by subdomains (47), a cybermetric analysis using size indicators (total and graphic), impact (visibility and external URL mentions) and popularity (PageRank) is performed. Additionally, a URL co-mention analysis is performed to understand the relationships between institutions when it comes to be mentioned together by users on the network. The results indicate a moderate to high correlation between the indicators used, although there are differences between the performance rankings for each indicator obtained by locating some anomalies in the size results as well as in some particular museums' visibility (low performance for MUA), total size (underperforming for MUVIM), graphic (on performance for the Footwear Museum), and URL mentions (high performance for the National Museum of Ceramics and Sumptuous Arts). Moreover, the study of the URL syntax indicates that the Valencian museum system on the Net is complex, abounding websites formed by subfolds and dynamic URLs that prevent accurate cybermetric analysis, and they denote, in general terms a still low degree of maturity.
