- The hybrid model gives authors the opportunity to purchase their articles in a subscription journal in order to make it freely available for others. The hybrid journals of seven publishers are the main focus of this work. Interviews with the Publishers and the adjustment lists of subscription journals on their websites form the basis of the analysis presented here. The aim of this contribution is to uncover opacity and to give recommendations as to how a higher degree of transparency could be achieved. This study evaluates the publishers‘ websites. In addition, the interviews conducted with the publishers provide answers to the most urgent questions, e.g. will they continue the hybrid model. In conclusion, this article offers some suggestions as to which parameters would be needed in order to achieve greater transparency for the lists of price adjustments published.
