- The article describes the background, history and development of Kooperation E-Medien Österreich (Austrian Academic Consortium), its purpose and the advantages and benefits of this cooperation. The article also describes the structures of the Austrian Academic Consortium as well as the activities and functions of the various bodies and task forces acting within and for the Austrian Academic Consortium. In addition, the consortia negotiated and administered in the frame of the Austrian Academic Consortium are outlined in terms of the content available and the academic disciplines covered. Finally, current and planned future activities of the Austrian Academic Consortium relating to Open Access and networking in international umbrella organizations are described.
