- A first chapter discusses and compares basic principles concerning the construction of library buildings as presented by Leopoldo Della Santa in 1816, by Otto Wagner between 1910 and 1914 and by Harry Faulkner-Brown in the second half of the 20th century. The following chapter provides an overview of the most important in formation sources used by those responsible for library building projects. The third chapter is devoted to the practical implementation and shows trends in recent library building projects. They are determined by two factors: The functional demands of today‘s study needs on the one hand which are conditioned on the other hand by the resources standing to meet these needs. The final section remarks upon the implementation of the theme in the training for library and information professionals.
