  • Discussion of the importance of knowledge management for improving intelligence services. Having first defined knowledge management, the article goes on to discuss the characteristics of information resources within an organisation and of the integrated information management systems that allow KM to be implemented. The aims and processes of knowledge creation by intelligence services —for security and defence— are analysed by way of the description of the stages involved (planning, data collection, processing, analysis and production, dissemination and evaluation) and of the principal technical, human and bibliographic means needed for information gathering. Lastly, the article highlights the importance of the information audit as a starting point, together with related activities.
