  • Unlike a printed book, a single copy of an e-book could potentially be read by many users simultaneously from anywhere. Thus, a major concern is that publishers ebook lending in libraries can adversely affect sales of books. To counter this, many publishers insist on terms that reproduce aspects of the loan of the printed book. Some of these terms may be necessary and tolerable, at least temporarily, to remove the fears perceived by publishers face to encourage the sale of e-books to libraries. Others question the demand from users who pose increasingly greater demand for e-books will be good for users and detrimental to the perception of the library as a service. In the document the current status of e-book discusses the library and the actions developed by libraries and professional associations in defense of the digital reader in libraries are described. Among these initiatives are highlighted as those carried out by EBLIDA, ALA, FirstReaders, E.voke and performed by some library consortia as Kansas, Colorado and Marmot.
