  • In an action research applied to students attending our school’s 3rd Cycle of Basic Education, (grades 7 to 9), in an extension of international research, the present study focused on collaborative work between school libraries and curricular disciplines and the active and collaborative work of monitorial students – learning by teaching – to master the information literacy competencies and as motivation for change in attitudes, values, and behaviors and for academic success, we assessed the improvement verified in the students’ behavior and academic performance in the discipline of History. Our own perception was confirmed by a qualitative and quantitative evaluation of the monitorial students, when some of them underlined the fact that the work they accomplished had a positive outcome on the behavior and progress in History in the disciplines of ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) and Project Area, and by the good results of all 3rd Cycle (one hundred twenty students) - 81% (Grade 7), 91% (Grade 8) and 100% (Grade 9). It’s important to improve similar projects in Portugal with other disciplines and define standards.
