- The new possibilities of communication also offer new opportunities for training, analysis and evaluation of research. Scientists and researchers are using web-based applications in their research. In virtually all areas of research, digital tools have become indispensable, the emergence of new paradigms such as open access, alternative metrics and social networks are an important example of how these changes have affected the way scholars think on the future of academic publishing.
