- Aim of this article is to analyze the inconsistency of the “dominant model” in the SSH assessment on the basis of the results of the National Assessment Exercise in Italy. There is a diffuse trust in the quantitative model and the only problem seems to be a lack of instruments (bibliometric databases). Indeed there is a lack of bibliometric databases, but the data from the Italian Research Assessment show us that research in the Humanities has other targets, other (more diversified) communication channels, other impacts. So we try to demonstrate that new models must be taken into consideration more suitable for “judging [HSS] research on its merits”.
