- In this work we address the meaning of assessment in the new post-industrial paradigm of education, both in its diagnostic function, validating learning (summative assessment) and in its capacity as regulator of the learning process (formative function); and also as a valuable aid in the regulation of the activity of teachers and institutions. The change in assessment, in its nature and functions, is linked to the new paradigm, especially since it introduces an interrelationship between the teaching methodology and evaluation, as we shall see when we discuss Mastery Learning methodology, which assigns a continuous nature to the set of methods, teaching strategies and evaluation. We will also address the traits learning acquires in the new society, which justify the new paradigm of education. We will see educational theories in relation to technology. We mean, therefore,to reference the new framework in which to register the personalization of learning and assessment, the theoretical elements that can integrate this new vision. And finally we will see a concrete proposal for the integrated assessment practice in instructional design.
