- A central guiding principle for the new standard for cataloging, RDA, is the idea that different types of material should be treated the same. However, for all objects to be cataloged there will always exist characteristics specific to their type, which are intrinsic to their formal description. Add to this the data model FRBR which forms the structural basis of RDA, and the consequence is that catalog entries form highly complex structures. This complexity will be addressed in a conceptual model for catalog entries. Additionally, it is possible to propose a general workflow for cataloging which covers all types of materials.
