- The purpose of this Master’s Thesis is to provide an overview of the scientific activity of the National Cardiovascular Research Center (CNIC) during its first ten years of scientific production (2002-2011), through the analysis of their publications. The main aim of the work here presented is to conduct a statistical study using several bibliometric indicators. The main idea is to observe the growth of scientific production in a new center, and recognize, should they exists, the differences between the publications of the basic research departments and those of the applied research departments. In terms of methodology, the publications are analyzed using the following indicators: production, impact, visibility and collaboration. The study is conducted at three levels: at center level, at department level and at laboratory level. The bibliometric sources used are the Web of Science and Journal Citation Reports. After applying these indicators we can assert that the CNIC has grown as much in production, as in productivity, in citations and in collaborations. In addition some differences have been shown between basic and applied research departments.
