  • Universities have adapted to the new European Higher Education Area. In this process, they have had to interact with their stakeholders in order to create the new degrees. Competitive intelligence and the management of social capital are tools that have been studied in order to learn how universities have used them for taking decisions regarding the design of new degrees. Moreover, the article explores way in which the field of Information and Documentation, having different internal and external characteristics, has had to cope with the adaptation. Although the process this field has had to follow has not been significantly different from other areas of learning, new profiles and skills for the information professionals have been incorporated
