- In the winter term of 1979/80 the Vienna University of Technology Library conducted a large-scale postal user survey that involved 692 faculty from a census approach and 1319 students from a representative sample. This article presents those survey results which are directly related to issues of planning for the new library building of university. These are in particular: Questions relating to organization and book presentation (closed stacks vs. open shelves including reasons for preferences, preferred presentation of journals and older journal issues, interest in a textbook collection, demand for loan periods); questions regarding furnishings and equipment (interest on carrels, subjective importance of other facilities, preferred work tables, preferred type of lighting).
