- In the winter term of 1979/80 the Vienna University of Technology Library conducted a large-scale postal user survey that involved 692 faculty from a census approach and 1319 students from a representative sample. This presentation provides information on the implementation and execution of the survey (research interests, target groups, research method, samples, questionnaires, field work, analysis) and in detail on the battery of questions. Subsequently, selected results are presented: frequency of use of the main library, awareness of catalogues and reader services, use of means of information access and reference tools, visiting and evaluating the introductory courses, using other means of library induction, especially the written use instructions, faculty's opinions on library user education and training.
