- First of all, in the work presented here is claimed the need to develop critical approaches in research and profession in the field of library and information science to address and illuminate your reality; secondly, it calls for greater interdisciplinarity in librarianship studies so that they can make use of methodological and conceptual frameworks from the humanities and social sciences to achieve a better understanding of issues related to the field; third, from critical theory are presented some arguments as epistemological and theoretical anchor for academics and librarians. We conclude that intellectual categories can be used from critical theory capable of becoming useful tools to identify and address relevant issues in the field and as a starting point for thinking about the relationship between theory and practice. Finally, in a context in which the speeches and neoconservative policies seem ubiquitous, and are a threat to the fulfillment of the democratic purposes in areas allocated to cultural and educational services, the work presented here is of undoubted interest because it provides a powerful intellectual baggage to academics or professionals to critically analyze the phenomena related to them
