The intention of this working document is to share some of the perspectives on the advances and technologies that libraries may take advantage of. To start, I provide a brief conceptualization of that evolving place that we still call a library. These concepts are those of virtual library, digital library, and library 2.0. Furthermore, I present an approximation towards a categorization of the competencies that we should develop and enhance in our exercise of the librarian profession. I hope that this working document will offer provocative and motivational ideas to the reader from my own experiences.
