- With recent strategic frameworks, the European Commission launched a new integrated approach to long-term preservation and access of the digital cultural heritage and scientific knowledge. Its communications outline the vision of digitization, online accessibility and digital preservation of heritage objects, highlighting the initiative and role of digital libraries. The article overviews provisions concerning the cultural policy and heritage digitization within normative documents of the Republic of Lithuania with the focus on legislation on published documents. It highlights the initiative of the Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania concerning a draft law on legal deposit, programmes and current projects for long-term preservation of the cultural heritage, and cooperation between memory institutions on the basis of the Integrated Virtual Library Information System.
