- The competition between organizations and nations increasingly demands the Competitive Intelligence activities and the development of their professionals. The aim of this research is to identify the competence profile of the professionals involved with Competitive Intelligence in Brazil, towards establishing a process of Competence Based Management approach for this Intelligence area. For the data collection Brazilian professionals of multiple activities and knowledge areas involved in Competitive Intelligence have participated in a Web Survey, and an exploratory approach was used. Important competence attributes for Competitive Intelligence were identified, taking in to account the analysis of the perception of research participants and the results previously obtained by other authors. Relationships between specific attributes and typical Competitive Intelligence functions of coordinator, analyst and collector, as well as the influence of experience on relevant competences could be observed. The results allowed establishing a framework of competence attributes related to knowledge, skills and attitudes competence categories. This framework can be useful for interested professionals and for human resources managers to perform diagnostics, recruiting and personal and team development in Competitive Intelligence, as well as for building management tools and operationalization of a Competence Based Management process in the Competitive Intelligence area.
