- University libraries are institutions that, by continuously flourishing on new information resources and presenting the latest scientific findings, directly support the education provided by and the research and academic studies conducted at universities in line with the universities’ missions and functions. Moreover, university libraries significantly contribute to creating course contents and to enabling students and researchers attain the required skills to effectively search-access-use-evaluate information resources available in print and digital environments. In this regard, university libraries should be sufficiently equipped with fundamental elements such as facilities, personnel and collections in order to fulfill their missions and objectives. This study aims to provide the fundamental elements of university libraries and to analyze the current status in Turkey in order to discuss the relevant primary issues and suggest solutions.
