- Knowing who is publishing and what is being published in a specific field, and in a specific journal, allows us to get a sense of the production centres and the trends in research. Over the years, the journal Enseñanza de las Ciencias [Teaching Sciences] has positioned itself in the panorama of research in Spain and Latin America and it is worthwhile to identify some existing patterns in the journal that give an adequate portrayal of it. For this reason, we have decided to present a Scientometric study on the articles about Mathematics Education published in the journal from 1983 to 2006. The aims of this study were to identify the authors’ citation patterns of the articles on mathematics education, to acknowledge which authors are most productive in this field in the journal, as well as to identify the possible tendency of the authors to be of one gender or another. 105 articles, published over the span of 24 years, were analyzed by applying bibliometric analysis techniques. The results reveal the bibliographic trends of the published articles, the most productive authors and the journals that stand out most. We can confirm that most quotes are in English as well as the tendency of the journal to publish mostly local research. We can also point out an increase in quoting articles from Spanish journals these by competing in this aspect with long-standing journals in this field.
