- The article purposes to discuss some problems related to the conceptualization of archival photographic documents that use to have their original administrative sense distorted on the constitution of non assumed image collections. The text departs from a concrete situation, occurred on the Negative Archive of São Paulo city, in the late 20th century, as the basis for analyze general matters related to archival contextualization of photographic holdings. At last an instrumental proposition, centered on the Archival Science point of view, is presented, in order to possibility the maintenance of the administrative attributes of archival photographic documents.
