This social commitment of libraries is a major contribution to build a world more just, tolerant, equitable and, ultimately, more human. The Library of the Complutense University of Madrid (BUC) has included in its 2007-2009 and 2010-2013 strategic plans a line entitled Library an Society, which emphasizes in the social function through objectives like to promote the access to knowledge and culture to the whole society and not just to the university community, to promote and to diffuse the respect for the nature and for responsible environmental policies and, above all, it emphasizes the importance of international cooperation for development in libraries.
