- The Arata Library (Biblioteca Arata) is a collection of almost 15.000 volumes of manuscripts, books, magazines and photographs, rare and valuable, that belonged to the bibliophile Pedro Narciso Arata, first Rector and organizer of the Faculty of Agronomy & Veterinary of the University of Buenos Aires (Facultad de Agronomía y Veterinaria de la Universidad de Buenos Aires), whose direction is actually in charge of the Central Library of the Faculty of Agronomy (Biblioteca Central de la Facultad de Agronomía). The Project of Commissioning Value of this collection began in the year 2005 with the launch of the Conservation Plan, which ended in December 2009 with the official opening of the Library Arata. The second objective of this project was the bibliographic description and cataloguing of the collection, to identify bibliographically and publish the catalog on the web to facilitate the work of potential users around the world interested in your query. In the year 2008 the Central Library, addressed this second objective and defined the cataloguing policy of the project, which was submitted to the Program for Latin American Libraries and Archives of the Mellon Foundation, and was selected. It presents the work methodology adopted in the Arata Library for the cataloguing plan and criteria taken into account when making decisions regarding this policy, which can be a guide for other institutions with similar socioeconomic conditions of the Argentina, to address similar projects
