- The Semantic Web, Library Linked (Open) Data and its impact on libraries has recently become a popular and much discussed topic. The aim of this article is to provide a concise overview of these concepts and to point out some use cases for the Austrian context. The first part is dedicated to an introduction to the fundamental concepts of the Semantic Web. Then some recent Linked Library Data-projects and initiatives, especially throughout Germany, their goals and challenges are being presented. Finally some scenarios and chances for the Austrian context, like enhanced search engines or catalogue enrichment, are discussed.
