  • Introduction In the recent years, checking the literature, we found very little studies about utilization of publications specialized in Sciences of the Health in print format, though numerous studies exist on the impact produced by the digital publications. We know that in numerous medical libraries in Spain, are removed his print collections, from the beginning of the subscriptions of digital publications. In the rest of the world, we know that the medical libraries use preserving his print collections, especially the big centers of reference. In the particular case of Andalusia, where there does not exists a of official reference center that preserves at least a print collection available to the whole Community, we have intend make an approximation to use of print collections. Material and methods We have analyzed the requests of Interlibrary loan and the use that the users make of the print journals collection, at the Biblioteca General del Hospital Virgen de las Nieves, during the last three years. Sent requests, and received ones, were analyzed too as well as the different specialities, and the titles of the different used journals. Results: In the year 2008 1.130 articles were extracted from the print collection. In 2009, when Interlibraryloan start functioning auspiced by la Biblioteca Virtual del SSPA, were 620 articles and in 2010 1.779 articles. Conclusions Still publications in print format remain in use in a number more that significant, we consider that at least, a Center in the Community of Andalusia, should preserve a collection of periodic publications specialized in Sciences of the Health, in print format.
